We are thrilled to announce that Philip Hook will be our guest in conversation with Philip Geddes at our Festival Launch on Saturday evening 13th June 2020.

PROGRAMME

From 6.30pm the stunning Bere Mill gardens will be open to be visited.

Coates and Seely fizz, Daymark 1863 rum cocktails and delicious canapés will be served throughout.

From 7.30pm join us for a sit down luxury picnic hamper supper with wine.

8:15pm Philip Geddes in conversation with Philip Hook, Senior Director of Sothebys Impressionist and Modern Art and successful author.

Followed by an awesome Auction, see website for details.

The Wheel of Fortune concludes the evening.

Philip Hook will have a selection of books for sale and will be doing book signings during the evening.

All monies raised from this event will go to the Hampshire Medical Fund who buy cutting-edge equipment for Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover hospitals.

PHILIP HOOK

Philip Hook has been senior director of Sotheby’s Impressionist and Modern Art since 1994. He has been responsible for the three highest priced sales ever achieved at Sotheby’s – works by Munch, Modigliani and Giacometti. He has over 40 years experience and expertise in the Art market, having also been a director of Christie’s, which he joined in 1973 straight from Cambridge. He appeared for 25 years on BBC’s Antiques Roadshow as a picture expert.

He is the author of five successful novels set in the art world. He has also written The Ultimate Trophy (2009), a history of the Impressionist market; Breakfast at Sotheby’s (2013) which was a book of the year in The Sunday Times, Financial Times, Guardian, and Mail on Sunday; and Rogues’ Gallery (2017), a history of art dealing which has been translated into 8 languages.

PHILIP GEDDES

Philip Geddes was a journalist and editor for 30 years with the BBC, ITV and The Financial Times (as European Editor for Financial Times Television). He then spent 15 years as a consultant to European Commission, advising senior level officials on the development and presentation of policy. He has written for numerous magazines and newspapers, and is author of two books – ‘In the Mouth of the Dragon’, on the future of Hong Kong and ‘Inside The Bank of England’, the first modern study of the Bank of England.
